Hello and welcome from Locks Heath Junior School's School Council.
We are voted for by our classmates and meet to discuss how we can create and even better learning environment. We listen to the voices of our school community and make sure that EVERY voice is heard, using suggestion boxes/ notebooks in our classroom to record ideas. We are role models to our fellow pupils and are kind and helpful to all.

Some improvements we have already made include:

  • Helping to improve our outdoor learning environment. We were consulted and had input on which areas of grounds needed improving and made suggestions as to how. For example, the new archway, buddy benches. Yr 3 garden and the new benches in the Yr 4 quad.
  • We decided to create 'Eco-Warriors' to help take care of our environment and keep our grounds clean and tidy.
  • We had input on and were consulted about the new fencing to help protect our outdoor areas.
  • We raised the issue of our plastic pencil sharpeners not lasting so petitioned for new metal or electric sharpeners for each class.

We also fundraise each year, either for a charity or to help our school. Last year, we raised over £1000 by organising a sponsored 'Eco-clean' to help look after our environment. The School Council have also been lucky enough to go on an inspiring trip to the 'Houses of Parliment' this year and see democracy in action.

We work together as a big team to make sure that everyone gets the education that they deserve and need and that every is happy. We never give up!

Maybe YOU could be a future school councillor too?
