Year 4

Welcome to Team Year 4!

In Year 4 we encourage children to be independent in their learning and to always give their best, building on the foundations set in Year 3. Your child will be encouraged to read widely and experience a wide range of books. Writing is a real focus too and there are many opportunities across the curriculum to write with real purpose for different audiences. Our Year 4 maths curriculum is lively and provides the children with opportunities to learn and apply maths to their everyday lives.

There are a wide range of exciting learning opportunities for your child to look forward to in Year 4, including a whole cohort extended day trip to Fairthorne Manor and a visit to the Southampton Art gallery. Throughout the year we will be celebrating the children's learning in our projects by holding parent showcases, we hope you will be able to attend some of our exciting outcomes and see some of the wonderful learning your child produces.

  • Year 4 Home Learning

Below are a few details about Year 4 Home Learning. If you need any further help with what your child should be doing at home or how you can help, then please feel free to pop in and see us.

    Reading:

In Year 4, children are encouraged to explore different authors and a range of texts, they have an opportunity at least once a week to visit the library to change their books. They choose, sometimes with support, two book from the library: one that is suitable to their reading ability using their ZPD (based on their Star Reader assessments) and the other for pleasure. We encourage the children to read at least 4 times a week at home and the Reading Record is a valuable tool for home school contact.

    Times Tables:

The children are expected to practice their times tables in preparation for the summer term's National Multiplication Tables Check test (MTC). The children will practise their times tables three times a week in school and have access to Times Table Rockstars to continue preparing for the check. To support your child, we ask that a couple of times a week the children play a game, complete an activity or log onto Rockstars in order to increase their recall of times table facts and develop their fluency. If you require any additional support with helping your child at home with times tables, please speak to your child's class teacher.

Thank you for your continued support.
